As one of the powerhouses in the Marvel universe and one of the three main Avengers, Thor receives top treatment in the Amazing Yamaguchi series.
The earlier Captain America figure still uses the old-style click joints at the waist, making it a bit difficult to pose, and the paint application on the face is relatively weak compared to later releases. Iron Man had serious issues with melted joints. However, this Thor figure benefits from improved joint stability and technology, making it a welcome addition for collectors.
One of the main selling points is Thor's muscular physique, with arms thicker than his head! Combined with his barbaric appearance, he exudes a strong Norse Viking style. The overall design also has a bit of a post-apocalyptic feel reminiscent of "Fist of the North Star," which adds to the unique aesthetic.
The facial expression leans towards a comic book style, with a natural skin tone and sculpted contours that add depth. He may not look conventionally handsome but exudes a rugged charm, fitting for a Viking warrior. Paired with the explosive and layered muscle design, his presence is greatly enhanced.
Thor comes with interchangeable head sculpts, one with a helmet and another with long hair. Unfortunately, the hair sculpt does not have interchangeable facial expressions, but the helmeted head has six different face options, including closed-mouth, open-mouth, and enraged expressions. The cape is designed with folds and creases, and wired to give it a stylish, flowing appearance.
Compared to the S.H.Figuarts The Avengers movie version Thor of the same height, the Amazing Yamaguchi version is about one-third taller.
The paint application enhances the sculpted details, with shading to deepen contours. The metallic silver armor parts are particularly well done, with a bright and shiny finish.
In terms of accessories, the standard version does not include Mjölnir, but it comes with a regular hammer and a hammer head with interchangeable effect parts. The lightning effects attach to various parts of Thor's body without the need for peg holes, giving a more seamless look, although they may be prone to falling off during posing.
Overall, Thor boasts the highest level of articulation among 1/12 scale figures. Despite some issues with joint stiffness, especially in the shoulder balls, the figure feels great to pose thanks to the new-generation rotary joints. Despite his massive muscles, he can effortlessly strike exaggerated poses, showcasing the awe-inspiring aspect of Amazing Yamaguchi figures!
